This poster serie is made out of existing posters, the proces is as followed, I took pictures of all kinds of posters I found in the city. I then calculated the average colours inside the posters, and how much of that colour is in the poster. From that information I would start designing my own new poster, a poster that doesn't carry the message of the original and is simply an image for decoration. In a way I only shifted the colours.
The idea behind this process is to reduce the constant bombardment of advertising in the city, and replace them with graphic design posters that are simply there for aesthetic purposes and not trying to advertise something. In the era of global connection and external validation this might offer a moment of silence and peace.
Industries, markets, companies, partition and customers are changing. New forms are fed in response to commercial pressure and changing technology, but graphic design continues to feed on its own traditions at the same time.
Graphic design has many ways to grab its audience and new ways are constantly being developed that rely on techniques from the past. Designers react to what has been. In a constant stream of high quality, the designs that break with the laws of advertising, information-design and appealing to a target audience stand out.
